What’s In A Name?

December 6, 2016Our new Logo for Emmanuel Presbyterian Church is a blend of a Celtic Cross and the Tree of Life. The cross symbolizes our faith, which is grounded in the person of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the cross. That it is a Celtic cross reminds us of our roots. We are a historically grounded church in the Presbyterian tradition. Our worship is a reflection of this fact. We are saved by Christ and him alone, but we are not saved alone. We are saved in community, a newly formed community in Cedar Park united throughout history with all the people of God.
Further, our cross is sprouting leaves. The cross was a tree. But, like our Savior our tree is not dead. Rather it is the tree of life. We serve a risen Lord, and our purpose here in Cedar Park is to seek the welfare of the city (Jer. 29:7). Our hope is that in seeking the welfare of the city, we will make Christ real by bringing life to the city through our love and service, that our ministry and service will bring healing in a broken world just as the tree of life does (Rev. 22:2). We wish to make the dwelling place of God be with man through us. We hope that by representing Emmanuel well, Christ will be Lord in Cedar Park and all of the northwest side of Austin (Rev. 21:3).
