This week was a festive one in our home! Monday was a national holiday, Women’s Day. Following tradition, Boniface gifted all the ladies in our household with matching colorful cloths to use as wrap skirts and headwraps.
Tuesday was Stephanie’s forty-first birthday. Her daughters had perceived a hint that she’d enjoy a surprise, so with shopping done by Boniface using funds I supplied, they secretly prepared a party to which they invited her closest friends. And sure enough, arriving home from work, Stephanie was thrilled by the loving spread in our front yard! Dinner, cake (pictured here), singing, speeches, and presents expressed our collective joy in the celebration.
Wednesday was her daughter Darcy’s twenty-first birthday. Though we didn’t invite guests, our family relished a special dinner of take-out pizza and soft drinks. Several of us presented her with cash — her preferred gift this year — and we all told her how much we appreciate her life. As she will soon finish college and has no suitor on the horizon, I encouraged her to use her singleness, for however long it may last, for God’s glory.
I’m so thankful for a close-knit family with whom I can share these happy occasions!
