A Relaxing Visit

Covetousness & Appropriation
June 1, 2025A month ago, I carved a few hours out of my Wednesday morning to observe the Christian education at Boniface’s new private elementary school. In the first-grade classroom, pictured here, a cheerful instructor patiently showed eight youngsters the difference between addition and subtraction, and called several of them to the chalkboard to try solving some simple problems, which they did with varying levels of success. Next door, Zaida explained to ten second- and third-graders the correct answers for a test they had taken the previous week, passing around the room to check each student’s notebook. I followed the 25-strong K4 class outside for a hands-on lesson in building a house out of concrete blocks and mud putty. Finally, I greeted the 17 K5 students as they learned about vowels.
Though I’m not as well acquainted with the other teachers, I thank God for at least Zaida’s Christian example for her students, in answer to my prayer for Godly instructors at this institution near to my heart. It’s always refreshing to see the cleanliness and orderliness at the school; the loving, personal care the staff bestows on each little one; and the high quality of the education provided in various academic areas. Pray with me that this new Christian school will flourish in its objective to train up children in the ways of the Lord, and that God will meet its significant financial needs.
I returned to the school on June 1 to help celebrate Children’s Day. Unfortunately, I was suffering from another bout of food poisoning, so I could stay for only a few minutes before heading back to bed. From the podium, I greeted the sixty youngsters who were sporting new yellow polo shirts with the school’s logo, and reminded them and their parents that the most important material for them to learn is the way of salvation, as explained in the Bible, through Christ’s death on the cross for their sins. May God always use my life to point those around me to Him.
