Our family recently began a Scripture memory project. The parents memorize together, the young adults memorize together, and I help the children memorize, all in the national language which we normally speak at home. I personally memorize from the Bible in the local tribal language, as part of my efforts to learn it well.
Each Sunday evening, on a four-week rotating schedule, one of the groups recites to the family what they have learned. Two weeks ago, I presented the first chapter of John’s gospel, representing two months’ work. Last Sunday, the children recited Matthew 5, which they had memorized in sections over three months, and were rewarded with a cake. And this weekend their older siblings presented James 1, learned completely within the past month. Please pray that God’s word will bear fruit in the hearts of all who internalize it.
