January 11, the date of my departure for Africa, is fast approaching! I praise God that I have received my visa, I have nearly finished packing, and everything seems to be in order for a smooth-as-possible transition from one side of the world to the other.
Among my preparations in the past few months was a trip to Kentucky for a huge conference on medical ministry worldwide, where I took this photo. (Though I am not a medical professional, I will be assisting with the administration of a hospital.) At the event, I was blessed to connect with many others who are passionate about providing charity healthcare in Christ’s name to those overseas who need it most.
I have completed two weeks of intensive accounting training, in preparation for my responsibilities in Africa. I have met with the newly-formed committee at Emmanuel that is charged with caring for my needs as I serve abroad, and I am grateful for their encouraging support. I am finishing up my packing and enjoying my last few weeks with friends and family on this side of the globe.
Emmanuel Presbyterian Church will be commissioning me during worship on Sunday, January 7, with a reception following the service. I look forward to seeing many friends from with within and outside of my church on that date.
Here are my current prayer requests:
-That my final weeks in the US would be filled with peace and joy rather than stress
-That my transit to Mozambique January 11-13 would be smooth, without any problems
-That all my luggage — carry-on, checked, and shipped — would arrive safely, with little or no customs charges
-That my Mozambican residence permit, for which I’ll apply after my arrival, would be granted quickly
-That I would continue to have good health and energy
-That my Portuguese skills would be sharp and improve quickly
-That I would be an effective, efficient administrator for the mission
-That I would quickly develop close, God-honoring relationships with people in Mozambique
-That God’s name would be great among the nations (Malachi 1:11)
