This past Wednesday was not only Labor Day here in Africa, but it was also a friend’s thirtieth birthday. So we threw her a surprise party! Between members of her church, associates from her job, distributors of the cosmetics line she manages, and other individuals, nearly fifty people gathered to celebrate the occasion. Many purchased matching clothes especially for the occasion, as you can see in the photo. The event included a feast, gifts, speeches, conversation, and laughter. I helped set up beforehand and stayed to close up the building afterwards, which made for a tiring day, but it was worth the effort to bless the delighted birthday girl.
Lately, I have been incredibly busy in the office. My director is out of the country, so I have picked up a few tasks from him, including the opportunity to help a young neighbor study math and the Bible. I have many preparations to make for the pastors’ conference that we will host in July. I’m managing our large annual book order from overseas, to restock our bookshop. Keeping up with the accounting takes a good bit of time, especially at the end of one month and beginning of the next. And the list goes on and on.
The good news is that God gave me a brain that enjoys multi-tasking and staying busy with many responsibilities. Yet even we over-achievers can feel overwhelmed at times! I haven’t reached that point yet, but I would appreciate prayers for continued peace and presence of mind to do my best in the office, even if I seem to finish each day with a longer to-do list than when I started.
