Testing our Mettle
September 3, 2021
Goodbye to Paula
September 4, 2021This past year and half of COVID world has been hard and strange. It has changed us as a church quite a bit. As we move into Fall we are attempting to resume a more normal church life with more normal church ministries. But of course, we have lost some folks, gained some folks, and everything is a bit different. So this seems like a good time for us to go back to the basics of the identity of our church: Who We Are and Why We Are Here. As a church we need to reengage our vision and our mission. In a word we need to Reboot, something like what you do with your computer when you update your Operating System. This is a critical and exciting time in the life of our young church. We all need to be on board and rowing in the same direction. We need to grow some, much like we did when we first started as a church plant. We need to recommit ourselves to serving one another and the community of Cedar Park and all of the NW side of Austin.
What Are We Doing This Fall?
- I will be preaching a special series of sermons on Rebooting and Reengaging our Church Mission during the month of September.
- We are resuming our in person Community Groups. Which you can read more about here.
- Youth Group and Men’s Bible Study are resuming as well.
- We are resuming our Mark 6 offerings to help New Hope High School and our Church Picnic/Feasts both on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
- We have a full calendar of special events like our Chili Cook Off at The Good Lot (Nov. 6), Church Camping Trip at Inks Lake (Nov. 12-13), a Christmas Party with St. Nicholas (Dec. 19), and our Lessons & Carols Service on Christmas Eve.
- We are also giving out Welcome Bags to New Comers and offering monthly New Comers lunches to help folks get to know the church and church leadership.
- We are working to resume regular School of Discipleship Classes and Children’s Worship in October.
What Can You Do?
- Participate! Get involved! Join a Community Group. Come to the various fun events we have planned. Be regular in Worship and School of Discipleship. We all need to be in regular communion with the body of Christ.
- Volunteer! We need volunteers to help with Sunday morning activities: set-up and take down, choir, hospitality, ushering, greeting, and more. If we are to grow as a church we need to be prepared to serve visitors well! If you are wondering how you can help, please contact Adam Lopez.
- Give! More on this later. But the financial situation of the church has suffered considerably under the strain of COVID. Please prayerfully consider what you can give to the church.
- Pray! Pray that God would send us new folks to join in the work of advancing Christ’s Kingdom here in Cedar Park!
- Invite! Invite your friends and neighbors to Worship, or Special Events, or Community Group social events. Many people are in transition and looking for fellowship and community. This COVID crisis has many thinking about God and the bigger questions about life. Church is the perfect place to bring them!
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday for our first Reboot Sermon from Genesis 18:16-33 entitled “Does God Love the City?” We’ll spend some time looking at how we are called to function as a priesthood ministering the Love of Christ to the world around us.
