In a culture where closeness between dads and daughters is eschewed, the father-daughter banquets our family hosted in 2022 and 2023 for 100 participants from 40 families broke new, exciting, ground. At the conclusion of the last banquet, the men asked us to provide more frequent events to cultivate their friendship with their little girls, and to include training in how they should approach these relationships. Taking their requests to heart and to the Lord in prayer, we then met with the fathers in October to plan the agenda of activities for 2024.
Today was the first event on our agenda: a seminar for the fathers on parenting their daughters. Twenty men spent their morning with us at Boniface’s church, listening intently to a gifted missionary named Gerson share on fatherhood from God’s word and his own experience. In Genesis, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Samuel, Psalms, Proverbs, Ephesians, and Hebrews, he spotlighted insights on the man’s role as humble leader of his family. He also led the group in crying out to God to break curses that may have been placed on their families by pagan relatives.
And our agenda continues. On April 13, we’ll have a game day for the fathers and their daughters. On June 22, we’ll take them to a nearby mountain resort for a picnic. Our annual father-daughter banquet is scheduled for August 10, with registration already open. We’ll hold an afternoon of Scottish dancing with fathers and daughters one Saturday in October, Lord willing, and on the same day discuss a possible father-daughter day trip to the beach in December. Through all these activities, please pray that God will turn the hearts of these men and their daughters to one another and to Himself.
