We are just three Sundays away from choir resuming for the next year!  Our first choir rehearsal is September 5—ready to sing at 9:15 am!

With the beginning of choir, and especially after such a strange year or so, I wanted to take a minute to let everyone know that this is an opportunity for anyone to consider.  We would love to have you!  There is no audition and no musical “standard” that you need to meet in order to join us.  All that is really necessary is your ability to commit to regularly attending our rehearsals which are held Sunday mornings before our service.

The main job of our choir is to support the congregation in engaging in the service.  It’s easier to sing when someone is singing beside you, right?  That’s what the choir is trying to do for the congregation—provide a foundation that lets you sing and respond in the service with confidence.

If you already like to sing, choir is a great place for you.

If you wish you knew our hymns better, choir is a great opportunity to become familiar with them and get a chance to sing them more often!

If you are not a confident singer, choir is ALSO a great place for you.  Singing more often, with a group, and with some leadership can grow your abilities in a way that may surprise you.  This is even true if you have been told in your past that you cannot/should not sing.  Try me.  I can assure you that I have heard worse and have helped them improve!

Our regular rehearsals are held Sunday mornings in the gym at 9:15 am.  That time is the time we start, so arriving earlier means we can use our time efficiently.  We use our rehearsal time to get ready for that day’s service, as well as prepare anthems to be sung periodically.

The choir also prepares music for our Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols service and our Good Friday Service of Darkness.  For those services we typically start our rehearsals a bit earlier and also have a few rehearsals in order to be ready.  Some folks who are not able to commit to choir every week instead choose to join us for these more intensive periods in choir when we are preparing more music.
