God is answering our prayers for more churches to host our girls’ conferences. This past weekend, our team took the Radiant Purity conference to the nearby Passover Lamb Church, where nearly fifty young ladies from various congregations gathered for the two-day event. As usual, I showed the videos on my computer, orally interpreting them from English into Portuguese, with brief cultural explanations as necessary for the locals to understand the Biblical messages.
Stephanie, Darcy, and Leah each led a discussion group, as they normally do, to ensure the participants’ comprehension after each session. Olga wasn’t available, so I personally took the group she would have led, of attendees ages 17-20. I was thrilled to hear them eagerly repeat the details of what they had just learned. The downside of the arrangement was that I grew exhausted, with little time to relax until the day’s end. (In the past, I’ve rested my mind and body during the small-group discussions.)
To thank us at the conference’s end, as pictured here, the attendees and the congregation’s young men, led by the pastor, robustly danced and sang choruses in the local language. Two gals spoke on what they’d learned in the sessions. They presented Stephanie and me each with a live duck, then provided a cardboard box in which to carry the birds home for a future dinner. Finally, the pastor’s sister drove us home, a surprise for which my weary body was grateful in lieu of the usual trek from van to van on public transportation.
